Former MD Park Service Manager Guilty Of Sex Offense; Cleared Of Rape Charges
Michael Browning, 72, was found guilty of a single misdemeanor fourth-degree sex offense, though he was found not guilty of several other charges, including felony rape.
Browning was arrested by detectives from the Baltimore County's Special Victims Unit in September last year, following allegations that he coerced women to have sex with him by offering them jobs at Gunpowder Falls State Park, where he was employed as the park manager at the time.
He had been indicted on 27 counts for various offenses.
Browning is scheduled to be sentenced later this year, though no specific date has been announced. He faces a maximum term of up to one year in prison.
According to the website for the Maryland Sex Offender Registry, "a conviction for a fourth-degree sex offense in Maryland will result in mandatory registration as a tier 1 sex offender," a registry which lasts 15 years.
