Gobbler's Knob sees one of the largest midweek crowds in event history, multiple weddings

Groundhog Day is not only celebrated locally in Punxsutawney, but also all over the nation and world.

Thousands gathered to watch Punxsutawney Phil make his prediction Wednesday.

The groundhog saw his shadow, which means we will have six more weeks of winter.

The president of the organization said that they saw the largest mid-week crowd that he thinks they have seen in the history of Groundhog Day.

Among the crowd were several couples who made the trek to Gobbler's Knob to take their wedding vows.

The second day of the second month of 2022 at 2:22 in the morning was the perfect time for a wedding.

Karl and Alexandra Arbogast, who came to Gobbler's Knob all the way from Tennessee to get married on Groundhog Day.

"We got up here, looked around, and absolutely loved it,” said the newlyweds. “Everyone's been amazing. We said, yeah, we're coming here. All of our guests - when we threw out this is where we want to do it - every one of them were like, yep, we're in, we're on our way. This was amazing, and you're never going to forget it."

And they weren't even the only wedding that day.

There was another wedding around 5:30 a.m. in front of the entire crowd.

As the morning went on, and the sun began to rise, the “inner circle began” to wake up Punxsutawney Phil, who did, in fact, see his shadow.

People from all over the United States, and even all over the world, came to join in on the Pennsylvania-themed fun, proving that hundreds of people can have fun at 3 a.m.

"It's very energetic, very vibrant,” said Rob Walls, who attended the event. “Lots of great people, and wonderful people. People that come as west as Montana and eastern as Georgia. A lot of people just want to have a good time and celebrate."

And while it's the Groundhog everybody comes to see, it's the people who make it all worth it.

"It's been amazing,” Karl and Alexandra Arbogast said. “The people couldn't be nicer, and we absolutely loved the experience."
