Police scouring through at least 100 tips in connection to murder of Maryland mother
WASHINGTON (TND) — Police in Maryland on Wednesday said they have received at least 100 tips so far in connection to the murder of a 37-year-old woman.
The Harford Sheriff's Office said Rachel Morin's body was found along the Ma & Pa walking trail in Bel Air on Sunday.
Together we will solve this crime and find the heinous coward who took Rachel Morin from her family and friends," Sheriff Jeffrey R. Gahler said in a video statement the department shared on social media.Gahler said tips continue to pour in and thanked the public for their cooperation.
Some of your tips have been promising and tremendous in advancing the investigation and bringing us closer to getting the answers that we need, the answers that Rachel's family needs, and the answers that our community needs," he said. "Each tip helps bring the picture into focus, so I ask you to keep sending them in, even if it's something you think is insignificant, that might be the key piece of evidence we are looking for."He also said 10 members of the department's Criminal Investigations Division are working on the case. He added that they interviewed Morin's boyfriend, who reported her missing Saturday night, as well as several other "people who are close to Rachel."
The sheriff's office also asked anyone who visited the trail or was in the area the day Morin went missing to share photos of videos they took of the scene with authorities.
"If you were on the Ma & Pa Trail on Saturday, or near the trail or trail heads and took photos or video, we are asking if you would please share them with investigators," the sheriff's office wrote. "There could be something helpful in one of your photos that might bring us one one more piece of the puzzle. If you would have a photo or video to share, please send it to Sgt. Maddox at maddoxc@harfordsheriff.org."
Since Morin's death was confirmed, a GoFundMe account in her honor has raised at least $40,000 as of Wednesday afternoon. Rebekah Morin, who said she is Morin's sister, set up the account.
"I have made a gofundme to help my mother, Patty Morin with funeral costs," Rebekah Morin wrote. "There was no life insurance in place. This was not an (accidental) death, and she did not go willingly and she deserves a funeral worthy of her her beauty. If there are any remaining funds they will go towards things her 5 children may need. Please share, donate, comment and keep this going."
Authorities said Morin's cause and manner of death are still under investigation.
