25-year-old charged with attempted homicide, arson following incident in Mount Union

Authorities say a 25-year-old man faces charges of attempted homicide following an incident in Mount Union Borough Thursday morning, according to a criminal complaint.

Troopers say Talen Trice faces charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and arson after he reportedly stabbed and burned another man.

The complaint states that around 8:45 a.m. Thursday, troopers were dispatched to North Division Street, near Mount Union High School, for a report of a single-vehicle crash and fire.

Troopers say when they arrived on scene, they found a man, who had severe burns and puncture wounds all over his body, lying near the burning vehicle.

Troopers noted that they did not believe the fire was a result of the crash.

Huntingdon County District Attorney David Smith says the victim was flown to UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh due to the severity of his wounds.

Authorities say a witness observed a black male, later identified as Trice, fleeing the scene.

Upon further investigation, troopers say they were able to obtain surveillance footage from Mount Union High School, which showed Trice fleeing the scene and removing his bloody clothes.

Trice was later arrested in Altoona, state police add.

On Thursday afternoon, troopers interviewed Trice's grandmother who told investigators that she went looking for Trice after she realized that he was not at home, the complaint states.

Investigators say that she drove past the scene of the crash and later located Trice at a nearby basketball court, and that he then traveled with her to Altoona.

Authorities add that state police in Hollidaysburg and Mount Union police are actively investigating at least two separate crime scenes in relation to the incident.

Troopers say that they found blood trails near the scene of the crash, as well as blood trails and bloody shoes at Trice's home along West Shirley Street.

Trice is currently residing at the Centre County Prison, authorities note.
