(CelebrityAccess) — After weeks of teasing her fans with hints about something big happening on April 26th, including mysterious images on her Instagram, and a timer on her website counting down to midnight on the date, we at long last know what the pastel-themed surprise was.

A new single from Taylor, the first from her upcoming seventh studio album, and an accompanying music video, which, frankly, was all a bit of a letdown after all the hype.

To be fair, the video itself is pretty creative and marks a distinct turn away from the spooky ‘Reputation’ era Taylor’s musical ruminations on revenge and breakups, towards a bubbly pop aesthetic.

The video, which features Taylor and Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie, through the conceit of a French couple making up after a tiff, takes the two through a pastel-soaked dreamscape, heavy on the CGI and light on anything else.

Unfortunately, as creative as the video is, the new single, Me, is much less interesting. Framed as a celebration of the uniqueness of the individual, Me feels anything but unique and lacks a punchy hook that could have helped make the song musically memorable. Instead, it remains a confectionery piece of pop, momentarily pleasing to the palate but entirely calorie-free.

You’ll likely have a chance to judge for yourself, as Swift is lined up to open the Billboard Music Awards next week and it is a good bet she’ll open with her new track. Or you can watch the music video below.
